Men are usually quite conscious about the size of their manhood but are often anxious about it. In case if you’re under the impression that the average penis size is 6 inches in length when erect – and most men are, according to a study by Clemson University – prepare to have your entire world rocked. The true average is up to an inch smaller, the researchers revealed.

What is the average size of the penis?

Usually, a man’s perception of his penis length does greatly affect his self-esteem. A lot of men do contact a doctor about their size of the penis and inadequate penile size is within the normal range, functionally adequate for sexual activity, and require reassurance from the doctor about it.

So today let’s talk about the average size of the penis and topics related to it.

What is the average size of the penis?

The average penis size without an erection measures between 3 and 4 inches and the average penis size with an erection is between 5 and 6 inches.

In terms of girth, you’re looking at an average circumference of around 3 to 4 inches when flaccid, and between 4 and 5 inches when erect.

Men may suffer psychological harm and relationship difficulties as a result of worrying about their size, and potential surgical “remedies” may be dangerous and are often unsatisfying.

Penis size and erectile dysfunction (ED)

Worries about penis size can have a real effect on men’s sexual lives. Anxiety can make it harder to get and keep an erection, which is a condition known as erectile dysfunction (ED). ED is not related to the actual size of your penis but if a man feels uncomfortable about his size, this can cause ED, or make it worse.

Having ED can, in turn, create even more anxiety and lower sexual confidence. This may be more noticeable in younger men, as young men in our study showed less satisfaction about their size and a greater impact of size on their sexual confidence. A recent study showed that 1 in 4 cases of ED was in men under 40.

ED can become more common as men age. Our findings showed this, with the number of men who’d never experienced ED going down from 70.2% among those aged 18 to 24 to 57.7% among those aged 45 and over.

Those who had ED symptoms less than half of the time grew from 19.2% of men in the youngest group to 26% in the oldest. But even among older men, a high amount of ED symptoms was still quite uncommon: 7.7% of men aged over 45 had symptoms half of the time, 4.8% experienced ED more than half the time, and only 3.8% said they experience these symptoms every time.

Genetics can play a role, but doctors mostly believe it’s the healing that happens after an injury that will cause the thickening of the connective tissue that gives the penis a sharper bend.

About 5% of people have some sort of plaque of thickening of the lining of the penis, though it’s more common in older people.

There are two phases to Peyronie’s: the acute phase when the injury first happens, which will be painful. You might feel a thickened area on your penis and it’ll be sore. This can happen during sex, playing a sport, or any other way you might put your dog in harm’s way. If you notice you have a painful area on the penis it’s really important to go and see your doctor.

In phase two, the pain will eventually subside and you’ll be stuck with this thickened area of skin. If the penis bend is causing significant issues like you’re not able to penetrate, that’s a big problem and it is worthwhile addressing.
