What Can Be Done About Erectile Dysfunction(ED): Oral Medication ?

2 minutes

The most common treatments for Erectile Dysfunction(ED) or are PDE-5 inhibitors, such as Viagra or Cialis, which you may have heard of before. These medications primarily increase blood flow to the corpus cavernosum (the shaft of the penis) which encourages an erection. These medications tend to be very effective in creating an erection, however, they may not work as well if the desire for an erection is not present. The commonly available PDE-5 inhibitors include sildenafil, tadalafil, and vardenafil. In pill form, they may take up to one hour before they are in effect, and they can be diminished if the patient eats a big meal or has alcohol. Additionally, they do tend to have some slight side effects in some patients including dizziness, headache, and face flushing. Sometimes these are short-lasting side-effects and sometimes they can be rather intense. It all depends on the patient. The best thing about taking these medications in the EDissolve form is that you can bypass the digestive tract and liver, in what is called first-pass metabolism.

By skipping over these to the bloodstream the medicine becomes faster acting, more effective, and carries less side effects generally. Overall it is simply a more effective and efficient way to take the same medication. While these medications are generally safe for most people, there are some cautions and contraindications. If you take nitrates for chest pain/angina, then you simply cannot use PDE-5 inhibitors, it is not safe. These meds do cause a drop in blood pressure, which could arguably be good for some people, but too much of a drop is also unsafe. You have to make sure that a doctor has reviewed your medications and medical history before taking these medications.
