Many men have had their foreskin removed from their penis. This occurred when they were a child, most likely. The choice was made between the doctor and the parents, usually with the urging of the doctor. The doctor will speak about infections and cleaning and the parents typically have no reason to not have their child circumcised.
It is generally just one of those things that is done for the male child without much thought about what the child will want in the future. There may also be a religious factor to the process, which is given no thought whatsoever.
Foreskin restoration
Foreskin Restoration is a process for lengthening the shaft skin of the penis to restore a foreskin. Circumcision removes the frenar band, the ridged band, and all or a part of the frenulum. Although foreskin restoration cannot replace the missing structures, foreskin restoration can create slack skin that covers and protects the glans to keep the glans from becoming keratinized, just like the original foreskin. A restored foreskin also gives men a feeling of being whole again, that the parts that were cut off without their permission have been restored.
Male circumcision is harmful in several ways, and some of the damage can not be reversed. The loss of the thousands of nerve endings cannot be undone, and the erogenous tissue of the foreskin is permanently gone. However, the following three functions of the foreskin can be restored:
1. Covering the glans – The penis glans (head) is meant to be an internal organ just like the clitoris of a female. Once exposed, the circumcised glans become dry and calloused, a process called keratinization. The foreskin keeps the glans moist and sensitive. A restored foreskin will keep the glans covered, allowing it to be moist and lose its calloused layer of cells. The glans are also protected from the rubbing of clothing, and minor bumps or pinches.
2. Gliding action – The foreskin provides a smooth and comfortable feeling during intercourse. This adds to the comfort of both partners. If a man restores his foreskin, this function will benefit them both.
3. Natural lubrication – When the glans are covered and kept moist, they can provide its lubrication during sex. Circumcised men often need artificial lube before intercourse or other stimulation to keep themselves and/or their partners from being irritated by the dryness. A moist and lubricated glans is a benefit in any sexual activity.
Surgical method
Surgery is the most invasive method. Most doctors can perform this as an outpatient procedure, and healing can be over in a couple of weeks. The effect is very natural and there are very few possibilities of failure. There is a small chance for infection, but as long as the patient follows the doctor’s instructions they should be fine.
After the healing process, there is little chance that anyone would know the difference. The skin belongs to the patient and blends right in with the skin of the penis. There may be a small scar, but it is minimal and very hard to see. The most important part is following the instructions and staying safe for a few weeks.
The drawback to this is the fact that it is surgery. It can be expensive and there may be some pain during the healing process.
Regeneration
There is a large amount of research that is going into the actual regeneration of the male foreskin. This is being given a lot of attention by scientists and doctors from around the world. While it may be available from some doctors in some parts of the world, it may not be quite ready for everyone.
This involves causing the cells of the skin that is already on the penis to divide. That is the simple version. Chemically speaking, cellular division can be caused in several ways and the effects can vary. There are methods of forcing cell division that can produce temporary effects and some that may produce a longer-lasting effect, but the research is still being done.
The Tape Method
A more portable method that uses the same stretching idea is tape. While this sounds simple, it is not everyday tape and needs to be done using the instructions. The tape can be purchased in a kit or as a refill. The results are much the same as a tensioner. The principle behind the process is the same, with a more “private” experience.
Some men have stated that the tape method can be used outside the home, but this varies depending upon the person and the circumstances. There is little pain and the process can be tailored a little to keep discomfort to a minimum. The results are also temporary and will last the same amount of time as the tensioner method.
