10 Things Men should know about their sexual health problems

5 minutes

There are a lot of sexual problems that men usually just ignore which might lead to dangerous side effects if ignored for long. Let’s take a look at the top concerns men should be aware of to ensure their sexual health stays at peak performance.

Erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction is one of the most common issues that men face. It is quite evident that every man would face Erectile dysfunction at some point of time in his life as men age the chances of having ED increases due to a decrease in testosterone levels in men.

One need not worry too much about it as it can be treated with certain oral medications or by changing lifestyle habits. Men should be aware that the cause of Erectile dysfunction varies from stress to lifestyle choices. The real problem with this is that men usually don’t seek help soon enough and suffer in silence. A doctor can help not only fix these issues but also address the underlying causes—an important distinction, as erectile problems aren’t always physical.

Low Sex Drive

Low Sex Drive Doesn’t Necessarily Mean Low Testosterone as low sex drive is quite common in older men. As men age the testosterone levels in the body decrease but it doesn’t influence the sex drive in men. A man’s sex drive is a combination of biological and psychological factors. Although these factors include testosterone, they also reflect your overall health, your fitness level, and your self-perception.

Usually, depression and relationship issues prevent the person from being sexual and can lead to low sex drive.

Premature Ejaculation

Premature ejaculation is also a common sexual condition in men, It is when a person ejaculates without control before or shortly after penetration during sexual intercourse. It happens with minimal sexual stimulation and before the person wishes. It may result in unsatisfactory sex for both partners.

Premature ejaculation can lower self-confidence, make men reluctant to start new relationships or lead to concerns that a partner may seek a relationship with another man.

The best way to deal with premature ejaculation is to eat food that is rich in zinc. Also ginger and honey can increase the blood flow into the penis and greatly help with the condition.  Masturbating an hour or two before you have sex can greatly delay ejaculation so giving you greater control over it.

Blood in the urine

Blood in the urine is not normal as If you spot blood in your urine once, it’s possible that it was merely down to a broken blood vessel in your urethra. However, if you’re consistently seeing blood in your urine, schedule a checkup with a urologist. As blood in the urine could be a symptom of anything from bladder or kidney stones to bladder cancer.

Peyronie’s disease

Peyronie’s disease occurs when scar tissue, or plaque, forms inside the erection tissue of the penis. While the exact cause of plaque formation isn’t clear, many men with Peyronie’s disease have suffered a minor trauma that caused bleeding inside the penis. While the plaque is benign and noncancerous, it can cause bending of the penis upward or downward, depending on the plaque’s location. Men with Peyronie typically experience pain during an erection or difficulty performing intercourse.

To diagnose Peyronie’s, physicians perform an ultrasound examination to determine erectile function and anatomy. In most cases, Peyronie’s presents in a mild form and the initial pain resolves in 6-12 months, allowing the patient to return to healthy sexual activity. The plaque can be treated with a customized treatment plan.

Vasectomy

Vasectomy should be considered a permanent form of birth control. A vasectomy is a simple, minimally invasive surgical procedure used as a permanent form of male birth control to prevent pregnancy. During this 30-minute procedure, a surgeon cuts the tubes that transport sperm within the male reproductive system. The sexual health of a male is not affected as a result of a vasectomy and the procedure is extremely effective in preventing pregnancy. It is considered a permanent form of birth control because it is not easily reversible.

Sleep deprivations

Sleeping has a vital restorative function as your brain and body require this important downtime. Sleep deprivation causes a disruption in endocrine, metabolic, and immune functions, resulting in leptin levels (your appetite suppressant), increased ghrelin levels (your appetite stimulant), increased cortisol, and increased glucose levels (higher amounts of sugar in the bloodstream). If you are exhausted, your penis is going to be weary as well.

A Lump Doesn’t Necessarily Mean Testicular Cancer

Although it’s a good idea to note any unusual lumps, swelling, or pain in the testicles, these symptoms aren’t enough to warrant a cancer diagnosis. According to the Canadian Cancer Society, although testicular cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian men aged 15-29, it’s still comparatively rare, comprising just 1% of all male cancers. Regardless, any change in the condition or sensitivity of your testes should be examined by a doctor.

Exercise

Exercise has a remarkable effect on sexual function. It reduces stress, improves your mood, prevents fatigue, and increases energy. In the long term, it will reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, some cancers, osteoporosis, chronic medical problems, and physical disability.

Exercise makes your heart a better and stronger pump, your blood vessels more elastic, and your muscles better able at using oxygen. Exercises that work out the muscles involved in sex – the core muscles, the external rotators of the hip, and the all-important pelvic floor muscles – will improve your performance.

Pelvic Floor Muscles

The pelvic floor muscles play a vital role with respect to both erections and ejaculation. When you are sexually stimulated, the pelvic floor muscles activate and engage to maintain penile rigidity and a skyward angling erection.

These muscles are responsible not only for getting the stimulated penis from a tumescent state to a state of bone-like rigidity but also for maintaining that rigid state and for being the motor of ejaculation.
